Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Is this tour for beginners?  An emphatic “no.” We will be on twisty roads and will maintain a good pace. We expect all participants to have the fundamentals of motorcycle control mastered. This includes cornering and braking at highway speeds. You’ll get a questionnaire on your riding experience to complete before we’ll accept your tour deposit money.
  2. You claim I’ll come home a better rider. What will you teach and how?  Everyone on the tour will be followed by an expert rider everyday. At our rest stops, you’ll get a quick download of suggestions for improvement. Some areas we will stress: correct body position, cornering lines, throttle control, and braking techniques. Your tour guides will note any riding techniques that they believe are unsafe and cover that with the whole group. We’ll never embarrass you. At the end of each day, we will conduct “ground schools” which will be talks on motorcycle handling. We will cover the basics of motorcycle physics and progress into topics of high speed motorcycle handling. But we’ll also cover safer riding strategies for the street. Our tour guides are racetrack riders, and they are street riding experts.
  3. How fast can I go (it looks pretty deserted in the photos)?  We will go highways speeds. We do not condone or encourage speeding. Getting tickets will put us behind schedule. Don’t worry, you will get a thrilling ride everyday at the speeds we recommend.
  4. How far do you go?  We will average about 200 to 250 miles each day. Our route may be changed at the last minute due to highway construction or weather, so we can’t give you exact mileage in advance. We will stop frequently for photos and rest. We’ll stop more often for water on hotter days. Daylight lasts well into the evening in Oregon during the summer, and you have the option of extending your ride with a "happy hour" tour before dinner. One of our instructors will lead you on an additional scenic loop around our motel stop. There is a nominal extra charge for gas and tire wear determined by distance. We don’t ride after sunset for safety reasons.
  5. May I use my own bike instead of renting?  Yes. We will deduct the rental of $120 per day from your total tour package cost. Your bike should have enough tire tread depth to go 1,000 miles, and we’ll do a safety inspection before allowing your bike on the tour. We will check the brakes, tires, chain (if it has one), and fluid levels. But you are responsible for your own bike. Our inspection is not a substitute for a professional mechanic’s work.
  6. Why are meals and fuel included in the tour package? We try to maximize riding and sightseeing time and minimize time waiting in lines.
